HISTORICAL SKETCH

Dr. Samuel Saslaw graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1946. Saslaw was a faculty member in the OSU College of Medicine Infectious Disease department and published extensively in this specialty area. Popular among the medical students, Saslaw was elected professor of the year in 1956 and received the OSU Distinguished Teaching Award in 1963. Other awards include the United States Army Award for Biological Warfare in 1962.

Saslaw died on August 22, 1974 and the Samuel Saslaw professorship in Infectious Disease was established at the OSU College of Medicine on April 4, 1975.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Samuel Saslaw, MD, PhD. Collection contains photographs of Saslaw at award ceremonies and posed with his colleagues in group photos. Photographs of the OSU Medical complex are also in the collection. The collection also includes a two reel-to-reel audio recordings of Saslaw’s participation in the Practical Management of Infections Diseases conference, held on February 6, 1963.

SERIES DESCRIPTIONS

Series I, audio recordings, includes includes a two reel-to-reel audio recordings of Saslaw’s participation in the Practical Management of Infections Diseases conference, held on February 6, 1963. A table of contents for each recording is located on the reel box.

Series II, Photographs contains photographs of Saslaw taken at award ceremonies and with his fellow colleagues from the OSU College of Medicine. The photos were taken between 1946-1960. Also included in the series are photographs of the OSU medical complex, as proposed in 1977.
