Part of the Medical Heritage Center’s (MHC) mission is to “provide an environment for the academic and clinical communities to study and research meaningful historical records for the education and understanding of the entire health community.” To meet this mission, the MHC established a Scholars-in-Residence program in 1998. The program allows a scholar to spend up to a year within the Medical Heritage Center to use its resources in order to research and publish in health sciences history. Scholars are recruited annually and on an ongoing basis by members of the MHC Advisory Committee. Suitable potential scholars can come from a variety of backgrounds (i.e. students, clinician historians, PhD historians) and each application will be reviewed based upon the quality of the application and proposed use of historical collections. Contact Head Curator, Judith Wiener at judith.wiener@osumc.edu for more information about the program and to receive an application.
The 2008-2009 MHC Scholars-in-Residence are George Paulson, MD, and Robert Buerki, PhD. John C. Burnham, PhD is also an affiliated scholar with the Medical Heritage Center.
